"GO GREEN!! The world is our business"
Hmmmm...on first look I'm tempted to delve into this tag line & discuss entrepreneurship with a greener/more eco-friendly perspective. But like most times, when a second thought definitely helps.. I think, going green is a thriving business in itself!
It's human nature to always think what you'd gain out of something before you venture into it, & that's exactly what's in the 'go green' business model! It's like a win-win-win situation where one gains, through a undoubtedly successful business model of making the world a greener, healthier, safer place to live in & thus gains again, cos after all the world's our home!:)
The model talks about the motives, main plan, prospects, profits in the making & above all, making our home.. the world.. our business, without taking any extra effort! All it takes is a little awareness about the current ecological situation, & participating in an event of one of it's kinds... "E-Week 09, Feb 14th to 19th, conducted by Entrepreneurship Development Cell(EDC)at SSN College of Engineering".
The business model for 'GOING GREEN'.
Short-term & Long-term motives:
a)spread awareness about the benefits of going green like cutting costs, improving efficiency, making way for sustainable development.
b)help develop healthier homes & communities
c)go a on clean-up program that will help de-pollute land,air & water.
Main plan:
Set up a company that would
a)Conduct rallies & competitions especially in schools, colleges & institutions by & provide complete information on how to 'ecologize' in your own little way & still make a big difference, and here's how to save,
Fuel by cycling/walking if it's a near-by place or at the most using public transport or resort to car pooling.
Electricity by turning off appliances like TV, PC, Heater, AC's etc when not in use, as they are the maximum consumers of electricity! Turning off lights & fans when not in use & switching over to PL lamps, compact florescent or even LED's now-a-days are also small measures that could be taken.
Decrease C02 emission by ensuring your vehicle's in good condition & that it does not emit harmful lead pollutants or Co2 in it's exhaust, planting saplings in & around your home that will help remove C02 from the air etc.
b) Set up a working model that reuses & recycles plastic, at a low/nominal cost ensures reduction in use of plastic, & instead manufactures gunny bags, jute, cloth bags etc.
c) Go on a cleaning drive, to de-pollute river water by using latest techniques, like algae to help remove organic wastes, & filter & treat the water for chemical wastes too; Treating the industrial effluents & cutting off the polluting elements at the source.
d) Go on a 'sapling-planting' drive, by planting trees along broad roads in the cities.
e)Promote use of renewable energy. Solar panels, Energy from small-scale wind-turbines & large scale ones, Tidal energy, Hybrid technology, hybrid cars etc.
Prospective : While all of the above sounds like the usual stuff you've probably heard over & over again, the plan derives it's main benefits from helping industries & other companies make this transition i.e from their present state into eco-drive...more like a 6th gear in a vehicle, I suppose!:).
Mostly, since major industries involved are responsible for over 75% of the pollution,it's important to help these industries switch over instead of expecting them to do it themselves, given the enormity of the task. Also new start-up companies & new ventures could be supported & encouraged to develop & grow the green way!
All in all, let us remember that the world is after all our home... the Earth ours. We need no sense of duty or responsibility, cos we're not doing anyone else a favour, but ourselves. It requires just a little awareness, a little introspection & little effort...In a nutshell, we've already seen the reds & yellows of pollution, wastage, health hazards & poor development. So before it's too late, let us go green & pave a beautiful way for a clean, safe & prospering world !! :D

Nice start! Keep up the good work..SSN EDC Blog Admin
Quite an insight into what people can do practically to improve and conserve the environment around them without yearning for large scale companies' help.. The initiative taken by the EDC is indeed credible and the full goal can be realised if everybody understands the need to keep their surroundings clean and green..Good ideas suggested Arthy.. The world would certainly be utopian if your ideas get implemented :)Nice writing style and all the best!!!:) :)
hey...good one di..nice n informative!
How do you intend to make a business out of conducting rallies and awareness drives??
@Preeti, Sandhya : Thank you!
@The Eternal Seeker : Thank you. However I'd like to clarify that I do not intend to do business on that! Conducting rallies & awareness drives are motives of the business.. more like an advertising campaign..that not only promotes the company that's involved in all the 'go green' program's I've mentioned but is also like an 'environment in education'(EIE) program..
Good one!!A short n crisp n above all an executable b-plan......i liked it!keep it up!:)
as a critic my comment wud b:-
" try adding some fresh ideas regarding the measures 4r safe guarding our enviro...":)
Highlights the procedures which are not too far -fetched for small and large scale industries alike..would go a long way in improving the status of our environment..Good blog !! :)
Nice thoughts! Yes the Earth is indeed ours! :) Personally I think some of your thoughts are very practical and implementable. For instance, the walking/cycling/(Skating :P) part is a really good way! Loved the sapling planting drive as well. I really hope that your future posts on this blog show you as a leader who leads by example :)
Your thought of scaling these simple-to-implement thoughts, I thought, was the most-commendable! I feel that this is the key issue.
Felt that you could have been a bit more specific on promoting use of renewable energy. This is currently a controversial topic - it takes more electricity (from the black coal devils :P) to produce a solar cell (as of around 3 months ago) than the amount of electricity that the solar cell will provide in its lifetime. I would love to read about your thoughts on that as well.
And oh... loved your cutesy way of posting in green :) :)
@Gayathri : Thank u for that complete comment!
@Rufus: Thanks!!yep certainly hope that these ideas will make a minor difference atleast:)
@ Archu : Thank u:)Hmmm..from what you say, it definitely seems wasteful to harness solar energy the solar-cell way(debatable of course:P)...which makes it all the more important to find better ways of harnessing energy from the renewable sources. There's still enormous potential in utilizing renewable clean sources of energy.. & in ensuring more efficient & non-polluting alternative energy sources tat can def help meet energy requirements & save the planet!
it is a good one.. though we know what should be done to protect our environment, we get to see only few events which actually do activities to 'go green'... you could have written a little bit more on explaining the work done by edc for the e-week.. rest all fine.. your way of presenting the blog was good.. it was clear and crisp..
